Los Angeles police involuntary committed Britney Spears to a hospital at 1 am Thursday morning, not long after reports surfaced that a psychiatrist had declared the beleaguered pop star a danger to herself and others. Transported by ambulance from her Studio City home to UCLA Medical Center, Spears (as she briefly was last month) is on 72-hour emergency “mental evaluation hold,” also known as a 5150. “Britney has been prescribed medication which she refuses to take,” a family source tells People. “This is just another sad, sad evening.” Spears’ mother, Lynne, traveled to the hospital as a part of a police escort caravan. Her father, Jaime, and her brother, Bryan, arrived not long after she was admitted. Heath Ledger had become a regular user of cocaine and heroin in the past year, getting so high on drugs that an exasperated Michelle Williams was forced to boot him out of their Brooklyn home, The Post has learned. “She couldn’t take it any more. Heath wouldn’t show up for two to three days, and all of a sudden he would show up on her doorstep, an absolute wreck,” a member of Ledger’s entourage who did drugs with him told The Post’s Lorena Mongelli. “He was partying, doing drugs. She didn’t like the company he was keeping. She gave him an ultimatum. . . . and threatened to get custody of the girl. He wanted to make it work, but it was this scene he was wrapped up in. Was he an addict? Yeah.” The revelation comes as “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider” said that “out of respect for Heath Ledger’s family,” they would drop plans to air a video of Ledger snorting cocaine with a rolled-up bill at the Chateau Marmont. The video was taped without Ledger’s knowledge following the SAG Awards two years ago. PageSix.com reports that Ledger quips on the tape, “I’m gonna get so much [bleep] from my girlfriend. We have a baby together, Matilda.” Heath’s drug pal told The Post the 28-year-old star’s mushrooming fame had him constantly exposed to drugs. As the pressures of work grew, he couldn’t say no, and then wouldn’t get help. “He was hanging out with a bad crowd. He wasn’t cleaning up his act. He was making absolutely no effort . . . He was really into heroin. He wasn’t sleeping or communicating with anyone.” 
Don’t expect to see a photo of Christina Aguilera’s baby on the cover of any magazines this week. Sources say that after months of negotiating, a deal between Aguilera and OK! magazine came to a halt because the magazine couldn’t guarantee a full-cover photo of Aguilera and baby boy, Max. It might seem surprising that OK! wasn’t game to play by Aguilera’s rules, considering the mag ran Aguilera’s wedding photos, but a magazine insider points out that the singer performs well on stage, but not so much on newsstands. “The OK! wedding cover didn’t sell as well as they hoped, and even her recent Marie Claire cover underperformed, all things considered,” the source said. An industry source added, “Christina has an inflated sense of her own value and seems to expect an extortionate amount of money for these baby pictures. I’m not sure OK! or much of the industry thinks is a dollar figure that’s worth it. … She hasn’t proven to be a real seller.” Although a friend of Aguilera’s says another reason that the deal didn’t work is that the baby isn’t really “ready for prime time,” there might have been another sticking point. According to a person familiar with Aguilera’s contract, the terms include a promise that a magazine that buys the Aguilera baby photos may not run photos of Nicole Richie’s new baby. “Christina can’t stand Nicole,” said a source who knows Aguilera. “Nothing would make her more upset than to see those two babies on the same cover, even if it wasn’t at the same time.” 
A distraught Katie Holmes has stormed out of a crisis meeting with her husband Tom Cruise, furious over damaging publicity about his Scientology beliefs, and humiliated over the disastrous reaction to the movie he told her to make. The actress is said to be inconsolable after a string of leaked Scientology videos, featuring her husband saluting a portrait of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, declaring war on psychiatry and claiming that members of his religion are “the only ones who can really help” accident victims, have flooded the Internet and divided Hollywood. “Oh, I’m going hard on those guys and their reign … psychiatrists,” says Tom in one disturbing video. “It’s disgusting to me. No mercy … none. People reports that the pair have been spotted arguing all over town since Lynne arrived to L.A. “Lynne and Britney were arguing in the car the whole time … not having a good time at all,” says an onlooker. And after they left the Mercedes-Benz dealership, Brittle “pulled over to the side of the road to argue with her mom.” Lynne was left high and dry Monday night when she got to Brit’s house … and Brit was out with Adnan, says People, and was “nervous and worried.” 
As rumors swirled that a pregnant J.Lo had checked into a Manhasset medical center, the hospital yesterday denied that the Bronx-born superstar was there. Jennifer Lopez kept coy when first asked if she was expecting, and that air of mystique continued as the buzz on the Web and on newsday.com was that J.Lo had checked into North Shore University Hospital under a false name. 
Pop star Madonna is the richest female musician, according to the Forbes.com business website. Its first-ever list focusing on women in the music industry estimates the 49-year-old banked $72m between June 2006 and June 2007. Madonna earned much of that from her Confessions tour - the highest-grossing tour for a female artist - earning $260m worldwide. Barbra Streisand came second in the survey, followed by Celine Dion. Streisand, who at 65 is the list’s oldest member, earned $60 million during her first tour since she announced her retirement in 2000. Dion took the third place after making $45 million, mainly from her series of concerts at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, which ended in December. 
Stage jitters, nerves and bad memories of past shows are keeping Paula Abdul from performing live during Super Bowl XLII — not technical difficulties, as the production would like you to think, reports OK! magazine. The resurrected singer and “American Idol” judge will unveil her new single, “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow,” in a video segment that was taped before a studio audience Jan. 27. Fellow “Idol” judge Randy Jackson will also appear in the production, set to air Feb. 3 during pregame coverage from Glendale, Ariz. According to David Hill, executive producer of FOX Sports, there wasn’t enough time to set up a live performance for Abdul. However, OK! reports Abdul is too nervous to take on such a high-pressure performance. “She is fragile emotionally and too much of a perfectionist to handle a live show,” a friend of Paula told OK! Another source who has worked with Abdul in the past raises another point: “Right now, the only people who really see Paula raw are the ‘Idol’ people. I think she knows that if the “real” Paula reared its head at the Super Bowl, there’s potential to have to do a lot of damage control.” 
According to The Enquirer, Tony Romo broke it off with Jessica Simpson because he is all ready to propose to his college sweetheart! But don’t say anything…. Sobriety seems to be a sometimes thing for Lindsay Lohan. The “I Know Who Killed Me” star knocked back “at least two” vodka cocktails Friday night at the Beatrice Inn and later snapped at snappers trying to take her picture, according to our spies. Lohan, who checked out of a Utah rehab center in October, downed the drinks while partying with ex-boyfriend Stavros Niarchos and MTV reality “star” Brody Jenner, sources tell us. “Lindsay is learning how to work through her addictions and, once in a while, she chooses to have a cocktail,” says a friend, attempting to explain. “People overexaggerate her behavior when in fact on Friday night, many people commented to her on how composed she was.” Lindsay’s last reported slip was on New Year’s Eve, when she was caught on video swigging Champagne on the Italian isle of Capri. One source contends that drinks were showing on Linds on Friday. Confronted by paparazzi at the Beatrice, “she started going berserk,” claims a witness. “She didn’t want them taking shots of her with Brody.” “[If she got in a fight,] that would be shocking,” argues her rep. “Most likely, there were so many photographers and she probably couldn’t get to her car. Lindsay is always polite, but sometimes doesn’t want to have her photo taken.” Some blogs claimed that Lohan sat coquettishly on Jenner’s lap inside the Village hot spot. “That’s completely false,” says one pal. “She was with Stavros. Angelina Jolie fueled rumors she is pregnant with another baby with partner Brad Pitt by sweeping up the red carpet at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards in a flowing dress that hid any suspicious bumps. And now a report claims that photographer Adnan Ghalib, 35, has been filming Britney crying and babbling on about her recent breakdown. According to a new report from the British tabloid “News of the World” he wants to sell the clips to the highest bidder and may want as much as $2 million for the clips. 
Lindsay Lohan and U.S. reality TV star Brody Jenner were spotted “all over each other” during a night out in New York on Friday, leading to speculation the pair are an item. The troubled actress and Jenner, who was linked to Paris Hilton, partied together at two nightclubs, the Beatrice Inn and The Box, during their passionate night on the town. A source tells People.com, “She likes him. It’s early, but they are more than friends. He seems to like her back. “They’re actually sweet together, it would be nice if she kept him around.” 
With the recent brouhaha surrounding Scientology and its followers, Kaballah’s golden couple Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore have fallen off the radar. Sources close to the couple say the timing is good, because the couple’s relationship with the religion has been called into question as of late. “Ashton and Demi used to have an impeccable attendance record,” says one source with close ties to the Kabballah Centre in L.A. Another source close to the couple says it’s been “months” since the two attended services or participated in the Shabbat dinner after Friday services. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that Kutcher was just last week spotted shopping on Robertson Blvd. without his trademark red string. What’s to blame for the couple’s flagging attendance? Definitely not Moore’s kids, because they’ve never been active. “It’s something that Bruce Willis never allowed,” says the source with ties to the Centre. Others say that Kutcher was “tired of being dragged there on Friday nights.” Whatever the case, the sudden change in routine strikes those who know the couple, who were married in a Kabbalah ceremony, as worrisome. “It’s just odd,” says the source with ties to the Centre, “something must be up.” 
Buzz is circulating that Angelina is going to be the proud mother of not one, but two bouncing babies and Brad is going to be a daddy twice over. Earlier this year, Angelina Jolie was seen visiting the office of Dr. Jason Rothbart, who treated her during her first pregnancy and delivered her daughter Shiloh in Namibia. It is believed that she was advised by Rothbart to put on some weight, or he would be unable to help her achieve a second pregnancy. Angelina herself has been open about her desire to be pregnant. And now she has apparently been spotted at the OB GYN office of the doctor who helped Nicole Richie through her recent pregnancy. The consensus is that Brad and Angelina plan on moving to their recently-purchased chateau in France where they hope to add two to their ever expanding brood there. 
Josh Hartnett and Kirsten Dunst have fuelled speculation they’re romantically involved after the couple was spotted kissing at the Sundance Film Festival. The stars were watching a performance by music group Camp Freddy at the Park City, Utah event when they stunned revelers with a public display of affection after the gig. A source tells U.S. publication People, “They were making out like crazy.” Hartnett has recently been romantically linked to beauties including Rihanna and Scarlett Johansson, while Dunst dated Razorlight rocker Johnny Borrell last year. 
Jessica Alba is having nightmares about breastfeeding. The ‘Fantastic Four’ actress - who is pregnant with her first child by fiancé Cash Warren - is so terrified about an infant sucking on her nipples she is having trouble sleeping. She said: “One dream I had was to do with breastfeeding, which is the only thing I’m paranoid about. I’m more paranoid about that than about giving birth!” The 26-year-old actress also revealed she has been feeling a lot more emotionally unstable since falling pregnant. She said: “I’ve been feeling a lot more emotions. Anything could make me incredibly angry or break down crying. That’s not something I’m used to.” 
Lance Bass had to be taken to hospital earlier this month after injuring himself at a New York gym. The gay star bashed his head on a weightlifting machine, after refusing help with a workout, reports America’s Star magazine. A source tells the tabloid, “He tried to use an upper-body machine, but he put more weight on it than he could handle.” Star claims a lever swung back and hit him, badly cutting his head. The source adds, “He was bleeding so badly that the trainers had to call an ambulance to take him away. He was so embarrassed.” 
Britney is suffering from some sort of bipolar disorder. For months, Commissioner Scott Gordon has repeatedly ordered her to undergo psychological tests, but she has not complied. Brit’s divorce lawyers have devised a plan to get Brit into treatment. Sources now say it’s outpatient treatment that would allow professionals to “evaluate and treat” her condition. We’re told Britney is “receptive” to the idea, but it’s not a done deal. If it happens, the process will start imminently. 
Socialite Paris Hilton has sparked reports of a romance with Lindsay Lohan’s ex-boyfriend Jared Leto, after the pair were caught kissing at a party at the Sundance Film Festival. The star, 26, was snapped getting up close and personal with the 35-year-old actor-turned-rocker at the MySpace Music night earlier this week when she reportedly treated Leto to a sexy lapdance before locking lips with the star at the Park City bash in Utah. Lohan, 21, dated Leto briefly in 2004.

After requesting an emergency hearing Wednesday in the hope of seeing her youngins, Brit again failed to appear in front of the judge. But this time there was a twist: She managed to make it inside the courthouse before changing her mind and fleeing the proceedings. Unfitney got as far as the security metal detectors before she hollered that she wanted to leave and promptly marched out. Her beleaguered lawyer, Anne Kiley, offered no explanation to family court Commissioner Scott Gordon. Brit’s ex, Kevin Federline, and his legal team went ahead with the closed-door hearing, and Gordon upheld K-Fed’s sole custody of the estranged couple’s two sons. Maybe Brit had to go out and cruise for a fresh new paparazzo to play with. Adnan Ghalib, the scheming snapper who’d been servicing her with a snarl, just found out that his wife filed for divorce in L.A. Superior Court, citing “irreconcilable differences.” (We can only assume there was no “pop tart interference” box to check off.) Ghalib’s jilted ex, Azlynn Elizabeth Berry, is seeking spousal support and legal fees. In recent weeks, Ghalib has been joined at the hip with Spears, accompanying her to Palm Springs, Mexico, out to dinner and even to various (failed) court appearances. 
Hollywood star Lindsay Lohan is planning to reveal all about her rocky road to fame in a memoir. The 21-year-old actress wants to share her life story and give an insight into her recent brushes with substance abuse and the law in a published diary. A source tells OK! Magazine, “She wants it to be reminiscent of Drew Barrymore’s Little Girl Lost, which is about struggling with addiction as a child star.” 
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has vowed to stay away from the U.S. after a recent traumatic confrontation with photographers in New York. The Oscar-winner was pounced upon by the paparazzi during a visit to Manhattan’s Mount Sinai Hospital last week. Paltrow insists the media attention in American is much worse than in London, where she lives with her husband, Coldplay rocker Chris Martin, and their two children, Apple, 3, and Moses, 1. A friend of the couple tells the Chicago Sun Times that the star has vowed to rarely “cross the pond, unless I absolutely have to for work.” The source adds, “Gwyneth was truly frightened by the intensity of the whole thing. She was feeling fragile at the moment and didn’t need to face that.” The couple was overwhelmed by photographers when they left the New York medical center where Paltrow was being treated for “a gastrointestinal situation.” Martin was later videotaped chasing a member of the paparazzi and grabbing his camera while shouting, “You’ve gotta have some respect.” 
Britney Spears’ sleazy paparazzo boy toy, Adnan Ghalib, says he’s been having sex with the whacked-out pop tart and believes she wants to have his baby. Acknowledging that Spears bought herself a pregnancy test, the lensman tells tonight’s “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider”: “She has a very maternal instinct. She was feeling a lot of things she said she felt when she was pregnant. I think she was hoping she was pregnant with my child.” Ghalib insists Spears is not suicidal and that her on-again, off-again British accent is perfectly normal. “She just thinks it’s cute,” he said. Ghalib denied Spears has taken out a restraining order against him. In fact, he’d be ready to marry Britney. “I’d be lying if I said no,” he gushes, adding their relationship is “far from over.” Ghalib’s wife, Azlynn, apparently agrees that’s the case. She filed papers yesterday to formally separate from her husband of four years, citing “irreconcilable differences.” 
Denise Richards is fighting ex-husband Charlie Sheen over her plans to include the former couple’s two daughters in a new reality TV show. Sheen has refused to let his girls, three-year-old Sam and Lola, two, take part in the former Bond girl’s TV plans - and so the ex-couple is going back to court later this week to fight it out. Sources tell U.S. news show Extra that Richards recently landed the reality TV deal, which will revolve around her life as a working single mum in Hollywood. In order for the girls to appear in the reality television show, Sheen has to approve but he has refused. Richards is asking the court to revoke Sheen’s power as the children’s father in this matter, so she can move forward with the show without his consent.
